Clinical Nutrition and Supplementation
Diet is one of the foundations of healthy living and longevity. Everything we eat and drink impacts the way we feel and how our body functions. Often times health conditions improve dramatically simply from eating a healthier diet, and learning what foods are right for your unique biochemistry is essential to looking and feeling great. Supplementation should be just that, supplementing a proper diet, and determining nutrient deficiencies through an in-depth intake, physical exam, and lab tests will allow us to determine the proper supplement strategy for you.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
TCM believes health is dynamic and results from a harmonious balance between the complementary extremes, or yin and yang, of the life force known as qi (chee).
Qi is believed to flow through pathways, or meridians, on your body and dis-ease occurs when there is a blockage of this flow of energy. Points along these meridians are selected and very thin, sterile needles are used to help stimulate the opening of these blocked channels, resulting in better organ and system functioning, and restoration of health.
Herbal medicine has been used for centuries and is one of the oldest systems of medicine. The gentle balancing and tonifying action of herbs make them extremely beneficial for all conditions. Many modern pharmaceutical medications are derived from the therapeutic action of plants, and through the use of herbal medicine, the side effects of drugs are eliminated while maintaining the powerful healing properties of nature’s medicine. They are consumed as tinctures (alcoholic extracts), teas, root decoctions, or standardized extracts in capsule form.
Lifestyle counseling involves adjusting factors of daily living such as exercise, sleep, stress, work, and play. The mind-body connection is an important component of health which has been gaining research attention and has been developed into a branch of science called psychoneuroimmunology. It is an interdisciplinary approach that studies how psychological processes impact the nervous and immune systems. In essence, it is how our thoughts and beliefs affect our health. Working together, we can create solutions to address any and all of these fundamental aspects of health.
Based on the principle of "Like cures like", remedies are created from small amounts of animal, plant, or mineral sources and delivered in small sugar pellet form. It is considered one of the energetic forms of healing, while having the ability to have profound effects if the right remedy is selected for the patient. It is a non-toxic and gentle therapy that any one can implement.
These are hands on techniques that involve manipulation of soft tissues and joints, as well as the use of physiotherapeutic devices such as ultrasound, laser, TENS, and electroacupuncture. Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is also used in a number of ways such as immersions baths, compresses, and constitutional hydrotherapy, all of which improve circulation and blood flow, boost the immune system, and promote healing.
