We all know that dealing with excess stress sucks BIG TIME and is bad for your health. Not managing your stress levels can lead to digestion problems, headaches, sleep disturbances, poor decision-making, tense muscles, anxiety and depression, to name a few. It can also wreak havoc on your metabolism AND make you gain belly fat, despite your best efforts in the gym and with your nutrition. As if fat loss on its own wasn't hard enough right?!
I love, love, LOVE short & intense workouts. In the middle of it I kinda feel like cursing like a sailor, but when I'm finished, I feel like I'm really D-O-N-E. There's a sense of massive accomplishment from the sheer will power to do it in the first place, and being able to do this workout anywhere, anytime fits with my busy lifestyle, especially now as a working boss-babe mama!
The Squat is one of my FAVORITE exercises. It's a multi-joint, multi-muscle (compound) movement that delivers such incredible bang for your buck. It's been one of the foundational moves that has helped me tone & strengthen my legs and butt while simultaneously strengthening my core, and it's an every day (functional) movement that everyone should know how to do safely and effectively.
As a working mom, I just don't have the time that I once used to to spend hours at the gym. Some days all I have is the time when my little guy does down for a nap, so I've got to be efficient AND effective with my workouts. That's why I LOVE high-intensity interval training or HIIT. You work on strength AND conditioning at the same time, and you don't need much or any equipment to get an effective workout done.
